MSM was established on March 31, 2009, under the Societies Registration Act to promote and strengthen women’s leadership in local governance.
The 73rd Constitutional Amendment (1992) gave women reservation in Gram Panchayats, but women still faced resistance due to patriarchy, feudal structures, and gender discrimination.
To overcome these barriers, MSM was formed in Shihor Taluka with the support of Anandhi Sanstha, which has been training and building the capacity of elected women leaders since 1997.
Today, MSM consists of over 1,050 members, including Sarpanch, Panchayat representatives, committee members, and women from marginalized communities across 45 villages in Shihor and Umrala, Bhavnagar district.
